EMDR ANxIETY Therapy IN ANN ARBOR, MI

Find relief from the cycle of anxiety

Anxiety doesn’t have to get in the way of you living your life.

Too much anxiety can lead to feeling trapped on a “hamster wheel” and prevent us from actually slowing down and enjoying spending time with ourselves and our loved ones.

Maybe you worry excessively about every little detail, with anxious thoughts running wild in your head. Perhaps you’re feeling scared, tense, jittery, or just plain old sick to your stomach.  Perhaps it’s hard to make decisions because the “what-ifs” are so loud and internal chatter is so busy putting you down.

Maybe you’re …

  • Overcommitted, overscheduled, always spinning your wheels listening to podcasts about stress and time management. You just want to feel like you’ve got things under control.

  • Can’t seem to get out of your own head, second-guess yourself, and have a hard time getting your brain to relax at the end of the day.

  • Are a “people-pleaser” in relationships and at work and wish you could say “no” more often.

Whatever you’re experiencing, you’ve begun to notice how anxiety rules every area of your life. You’re tired of living in the shadow of worry and fear… and you’re ready to make a change.

EMDR therapy for anxiety can help you calm your anxious body and mind.

Anxiety shows up in many ways…

  • Panic attacks can be extremely scary and uncomfortable. We can become exremely anxious about ever having a panic attack again and reorganize our entire lives to avoid ever having another panic attack. Fear of panic makes our lives smaller. EMDR is an effective therapy for panic disorder. Mindful and somatic approaches will help teach your body and mind that anxiety is an energy in your body that cannot hurt you.

  • We can get really caught up in what others may think about us and our behavior so that it’s difficult and stressful to interact with others. Somatic resourcing helps you establish an awareness of your current safety, and EMDR processing helps you understand and resolve the root of the anxiety.

  • Perfectionists are highly critical of themselves and beat themselves up over anything that doesn’t meet their standards, fearing that if they don’t shoot for perfection, they will become low-achievers and not reach their goals.

Sometimes our fear of failure is so terrifying that we procrastinate because it’s too stressful to do something at all if it can’t be done perfectly.

Wiith Somatic, Attachment-Focused EMDR, I will help you get to the root of the belief underlying the perfectionism and imposter syndrome so that we can change your inner narrative.

How anxiety therapy works

Anxiety counseling to calm your body and mind.

My approach to anxiety counseling combines cognitive and somatic approaches to help get to the core of your anxiety and its symptoms With Somatic, Attachment-Focused EMDR, we focus on using your innate strengths and wisdom to address the root of the issue so that you can let go of painful experiences and negative beliefs about yourself and the world that no longer serve you. I will help you be curious and compassionate about physical symptoms and anxious or beliefs. We will do more than talk about what’s going on—we’ll take action to change it from the bottom up.

Processing anxiety with EMDR, sensorimotor psychotherapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS) helps you be curious about what your brain and body have learned, to reduce the intensity of negative emotions and disturbing images that may be stuck in your mind and body, and to develop self-compassion. Somatic, Attachment-Focused EMDR helps you access parts of yourself that traditional talk therapies and CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) alone don’t address. With compassion and skill, I will guide you to a place of inner safety and calm, offer practical tools and gentle challenges to ensure that you leave therapy confident that you don’t have to “manage symptoms” anymore because anxiety is no longer running the show.
